Improving Residential Care Options for Young People

Thurs 26 Sept,
The Science Exchange,
55 Exchange Place, Adelaide

The Department for Child Protection is working with service providers to explore new short-term residential care options for vulnerable children and young people. The residential care arrangements will be used when children and young people need to enter care at short notice for a period of stabilisation and for a limited time. The change aligns with the department’s broader reform agenda, including a commitment to reduce the number of children and young people in commercial care and place children according to their individual needs. One of the options being considered is establishing a provider panel to deliver individualised, immediate placements for children and young people when no other appropriate option is available.

Please register here for your in person or web conference attendance. For more information please email.

Anti-Poverty Week 2019

Sunday 13 October 2019 - Saturday 19 October 2019
Each year for Anti-Poverty Week, 17 October marks the Day of Action on solutions to end poverty. This year we have invited the Raise the Rate campaign led by ACOSS to be the focus on 17 October. This campaign is aimed at increasing the rate of Newstart and associated allowances by $75 a week. Around a million Australians are reliant on these payments which have not been increased in real terms for more than 25 years. Newstart at around $40 a day traps many people in poverty and many employers say it acts as brake on job search. We can improve our social security system to lift people out of poverty and unemployment – to truly give them a new start.Read more
