Post-Budget Breakfast with the Treasurer
When SACOSS members gathered for a post-budget breakfast on 25 June, it was clear that Health and Child Protection continued to be of sector-wide concern. The breakfast was held to launch the SACOSS State Budget Analysis, network with other members as well as hear from and talk with Treasurer Rob Lucas. SACOSS members had a number of concerns around the support of vital services. The Treasurer responded to SACOSS members queries in robust Q&A following his keynote speech. Telecommunications on a low-income
SACOSS has received a grant to research telecommunications and the working poor from the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN).
The project will identify telecommunications usage, affordability and hardship experiences of the ‘working poor’ - those below the poverty line with their main source of income from employment - and low-income consumers. We are aware that these groups are less likely to seek government assistance and those that do seek assistance within this income bracket, may not qualify. Our study aims to identify how these households could be assisted to overcome affordability barriers and improve telecommunications access.
This is one part of our ongoing commitment to advocate for Digital Inclusion. Our grant was one of seven that will be received this year. To read more on other recipients, click here.
