The latest (14 February) weekly Guardian Essential Research omnibus on-line opinion poll asked the Australian public about their attitudes to government regulation.

While 33% of respondents said that Australia generally has too much regulation, when asked about particular areas, 42% said that more consumer protection regulation was needed.  

35% of respondents said the amount of current consumer protection regulation was “about right”.

Sixteen percent had no opinion but only 8% of respondents wanted less consumer protection.
